RAJSHAHI, Nov 25:  Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) has developed ‘BRRI dhan52’, a paddy variety, which has been noticed as submerge- tolerant, for the first time in the region creating high hope among the farmers.

Referring to his research findings Md Rejwan Bhuiyan, scientific officer of Plant Pathology Division, BRRI, Gazipur, said the variety has been found survival till at least 15 days of submergence condition caused either by any flashflood or incessant downpour.

“The variety was cultivated on around seven acres of land in Paba, Godagari and Puthiya Upazilas of Rajshahi district on trial basis during the current transplanted Aman season. The harvested yield was found satisfactory and promising,” he mentioned.
