Katakhali Power Plant will go for generation soon
RAJSHAHI, Oct 10 (BSS)- Construction works of the 50- megawatt Katakhali Rental Power Plant has been completed and the plant is going to start generation soon.
Northern Power Solution Limited, a partner organization of Ena Group, constructed the plant at a cost of Taka 325 crore.
Chairman of the company Engineer Enamul Haque, MP, told newsmen that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is likely to open the plant on November 24.
He said power demand in Rajshah city is around 50 to 60 megawatts but the supply remains in between 30 to 35 megawatts. As a result, the city dwellers face sufferings caused by load shedding everyday, he mentioned.
To overcome the problem, he said the government had taken the decision for construction of the rental power plant at Katakhali in Rajshahi.
Lawmaker mentioned that the power shortage has been adjudged as the major impediment for the growth of industries in the region and hoped that the obstacle will be removed with the opening of the plant.
In this regard, he expected that the industrialists will not raise any objection to pay hiked power tariff to build a load shedding-free uninterrupted power system.
He hoped that the newly-established rental power plant will contribute a lot to expedite the economy of Rajshahi region.
It may be mentioned that Mayor of Rajshahi AHM Khairuzzaman Liton had inaugurated the construction works of the plant in September 2010.
