CHITTAGONG, OCT 5: Western Marine, a leading shipbuilder of Bangladesh, participated in the workboat fair at Abu Dhabi.
The three-day fair, which was organised by Seatrade at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, concluded Wednesday, according to a message received here. Workboat operators, builders and equipment suppliers showcased their state-of-art maritime products and successful performances at the Middle East Workboat Exhibition 2011, the biggest trade show in the Middle East region.
The Bangladeshi shipbuilder highlighted its successful achievement of series of vessels delivery to the local and European buyers at the event.
“Such participation by a Bangladeshi shipyard in the international arena is a matter of pride for the nation,” a company official said.
Organisers pointed to the ample business scope for the emerging shipbuilding nations like Bangladesh in the Middle East, as more than 2,000 workboats are docked or repaired in the region every year, on the back of the growing demand for such vessels.
Apart from regional exhibitors, Europe, Singapore and China also took part in it.
Saiful Islam, chairman of Western Marine Shipyard Limited, said, “The shipyard’s expansion plan is in progress.”
Managing director Sakhawat Hossain, who had represented Western Marine at the exhibition, said, “The exhibition was a great success for the organisation. We had several meetings with a number of prospective buyers and deals have also been finalised with three clients”.
