Boro cultivation target exceeds in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA, Feb 23 (BSS)-Boro cultivation target fixed by Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has already been exceeded in the district during the current season.
Office sources said the department set a target to bring 1,18,950 hectares of land under Boro cultivation in all the seven upazilas of the district this year with a production target of 4,75,800 metric tons of rice.
Later, the target was exceeded and a total of 1,22, 000 hectares of land were brought under the cultivation by bringing more 3,050 hectares of land, office sources said.
Of the total, some 18,200 hectares of land were cultivated in Sadar Upazila, 14,700 in Sadullapur Upazila, 12,800 in Palashbari Upazila, 31,500 in Gobindaganj Upazila, 22,400 in Sundarganj Upazila, 14,400 in Saghata Upazila and 8000 in Fulchhari Upazila of the district.
The farmers of the district are now so much busy transplanting seedlings in fields following the suggestions of the field level DAE officials.
Besides, the farmers are also nurturing the cultivated land through providing it with fertilizer and removing out grass from the land to get desired production of paddy.
To make the programme a grand success, the BADC and BMDA have supplied the quality seed to the farmers at fair prices.
Besides, the necessary measures have been taken to distribute fertilizers, insecticides and other agri-inputs among the growers to help them boost production of Boro paddy this year.
In addition, DAE has been conducting training of farmers for adopting modern technologies of paddy cultivation, crop management and preservation of quality seed, said the officials of DAE.
