Bumper mango production likely in C’nawabganj
CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Feb 21 (BSS)- A bumper mango production is likely this year in Chapainawabganj district.
More than 60% mango trees have so far been in flowers. If the weather remains favourable, huge mangoes would be produced, sources with Chapainawabganj district office of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said.
Farmers are taking all out preparations to have a good production of mangoes. They are now taking cares like spraying insecticides on the trees.
DAE sources added that there are 18,87,806 mango trees on 23,070 hectares of land in which 3,08,495 mango trees on 3,780 hectares in sadar upazila, 10,12,855 mango trees on 12,785 hectares in Shibganj upazila, 2,62,936 mango trees on 2,855 hectares in Gomostapur upazila, 1,55,290 mango trees on 1,650 hectares in Nachole upazila and 1,48,230 mango trees on 2,000 hectares in Bholahat upazila.
A total of 1,72,000 metric tons of mango was produced on 22,500 hectares of land in Chapainawabganj district in 2010, the sources said.
The sources said this is an on year for mangoes according to the bearing nature of the fruit.
